Finding the correct product user guides and warranty forms, trouble shooting info, or retrieving receipts when it's needed is not as easy as it should be.

As consumers we are provided with printed information and instructions with most product purchases, we also search for user instructions, warranty information, and care info online.

We’re also prompted to download files, and scan codes which get lost on devices and shelves.

Through surveys and conversations founders Reena and Pete learnt 4 interesting things:

  1. Printed information is typically thrown out or added to a pile of paper that continues to grow.
  2. Online searches for information can be laborious and may not provide correct and relevant results, which impacts the  experience a customer has with a brand.
  3. Accessing printed or digital information that has been stored on a shelf, previously downloaded, or in an inbox at a time when it’s needed is hard. So people end up searching for what they want online and sifting through blogs, how to videos, reviews etc to find content from the manufacturer.
  4. Everyone we contacted owns a device and prefers to receive, read and view digital information. The problem with this is they still need to find it when needed.

We also learnt that even though it’s not top of mind, most people are interested in making changes to reduce waste production to improve the impact it has on the environment.

Not so fun fact:

Cutting down paper waste along with all other waste is a major issue. Out of the 17 billion cubic feet of tress deforested each year, over 60% are used to make paper. This deforestation is responsible for nearly a fifth of the world’s annual greenhouse gas emissions.”  Source: www.capital-solutions.co.uk/cutting-down-paper-not-trees  2018

Our research has identified that consumers prefer information in a digital format and turn to Google in frustration for help, which has its own issues.

Fantastic fact:

“Digital document management systems can save an astounding 1.4 trillion pounds of paper.” Source: https://www.roadrunnerwm.com/blog/five-tips-to-help-your-office-go-paperless.

At Skandat we want to:

  • Help brands to deliver information to their customers in a preferred format and create deeper connections with them.
  • Make it easy for consumers to manage and retrieve product and warranty information when most needed.
  • Assist in the reduction of  paper waste that is produced in the production cycle of a product.

"I don't read any of the information that comes with the things I buy, I usually throw it out. I might keep the box with instructions and warranty info if it's expensive and store them in my cupboard, but that takes up space. It's easier to google it anyway. I'd rather receive electronic information I can save."

Skandat can aid manufacturers and brands improve the customer experience

How? By improving the way information is delivered to customers and gain an additional view of user behaviours through metrics.

Benefits to manufacturers include improved customer experiences through the delivery of correct information, and a reduction of printing costs of printed material.

Skandat can help individuals find information easily when they need it.

How? By using a platform that can primarily save and manage product information shared directly by a manufacturer. Users will also have the ability to scan and upload receipts and other documents to the platform.

Skandat will help users to manage information in the one place to retrieve when needed.

Skandat value propositions:

Brands will have the ability to directly provide the product information and create a more personal connection with consumers.

Use of data consumption analytics to develop customer engagement strategies, and increase brand loyalty.

The cost to produce printed material, including packaging can be reduced.

Prevent paper waste at the start of the manufacturing cycle with digital options.

We live in a world full of information and Skandat will help to manage it better.
