We are bombarded with instructions whenever we buy anything that is packaged, and it can get out of control in terms of filing, storing and accessing when something stops working.
What’s the last thing you bought that included some kind of printed information? What did you do with it?
As a conscious consumer I do wonder why written instructions continue to be produced, even though most people prefer to receive instructions and information in a digital format, in a digital age.
Printed information that is included with a product goes into the bin or is added to an existing pile of instructions most likely never to be seen again. So, when an individual needs to trouble shoot a problem or look up warranty info they turn to a search engine and then sort through the search results for info that is relevant to them. In this scenario the brand then loses contact with their customers in a time of need, as they sort through content produced by bloggers, and individuals writing content for their own pages.
As a person who has experienced frustrations when something stops working, to then have to find and sort through user guides, or conduct a search online adds to the initial frustration, and likely continues to grow when I can’t find what I’m looking for easily.
Great news, it doesn’t have to be this way.
